Your Career in Europe Starts Here.
There's a moment when a career abroad stops feeling like a fantasy and starts feeling like a plan. This is the guide for that moment.
Europe, particularly Germany and Switzerland, is experiencing one of the most significant skilled worker shortages in recent history. Hospitals need healthcare professionals. Tech companies need engineers. And India has exactly the kind of talent Europe is looking for. The challenge isn't your skills. It's navigating the process. That's where we come in.
What Type of Work Visa Do You Need?
This is where many people get confused, and where applying without guidance can mean applying for the wrong thing entirely. Here are the main work visa categories relevant to Indian professionals:
Why Germany and Switzerland? What Makes These Different?
There are many countries you could work in. So why do we specialize in Germany and Switzerland, and why do so many of our clients choose them?
Germany has one of the most transparent and skills-based immigration systems in the world. If you have a recognized qualification and a job offer, or even just a strong profile in a shortage occupation, Germany has multiple legal pathways to get you there. The recently updated Skilled Immigration Act has made it more accessible than ever, opening doors for vocational workers in addition to degree holders.
Switzerland is not easy to get into. It's competitive, the standards are high, and the requirements are strict. But the rewards reflect that: salaries are among the highest in the world, the quality of life is exceptional, and Swiss work experience carries enormous global value.
"The countries that are hardest to enter tend to be the ones most worth entering."

Countries We Specialize In
We focus exclusively on Germany, Switzerland, and select European destinations because specializing means we know their work permit rules, employer expectations, and credential requirements inside and out.
Europe has a skills shortage. India has exactly the talent they need.
Germany alone needs over 400,000 skilled workers annually. Healthcare, IT, and engineering are at the top of the list, and Indian professionals are actively being recruited to fill these gaps.
The Work Visa Process, Step by Step
Every professional journey is different, but the process follows a clear structure. Here's exactly how we guide our clients at Abroad Aura:
-
1
Honest Profile Evaluation
The first thing we do is assess where you actually stand: your qualifications, work experience (minimum 5 years required), sector, language skills, and age (up to 45 years). Some clients are ready to apply now. Some need preparation. Knowing which category you're in upfront saves you enormous time and money.
-
2
Credential Recognition (Anerkennung)
For regulated professions β healthcare, medicine, engineering, teaching β your Indian qualifications must be formally recognized by a German authority before you can work. We guide you through exactly what's needed for your profession, what documents to prepare, and how long the process realistically takes.
-
3
Language Preparation β 5 to 7 Months
German language proficiency is non-negotiable for most work visa pathways. Healthcare professionals typically need B2. Engineers in German-speaking companies need at least B1 to B2. Our in-house team offers structured German courses from A1 through C2. We've seen clients achieve B2 in 5 to 7 months with focused preparation.
-
4
Documents Translation & Preparation
All docs must be translated into German by a certified translator. This includes academic transcripts, degree certificates, experience letters, and identity documents. We coordinate certified translations and ensure every doc meets the exact requirements of the relevant authority.
-
5
CV Optimization & Job Placement Support
German-format CVs are different from Indian ones: layout, length, and structure all matter. We help with CV rewriting, cover letter preparation, and interview coaching in both German and English professional contexts. We also have connections with employers in healthcare and engineering actively recruiting from India.
-
6
Visa Application & Documentation
Once you have your job offer and recognized credentials, we compile your complete visa application file. We double-check every document: one incorrect date, one missing translation, one inconsistency in your employment contract can delay your application by months. Visa process typically takes 3 to 4 months.
-
7
Embassy Appointment & Filing
We guide you through booking your appointment at the German Embassy and prepare you for what to expect. We do a mock interview if needed, so you walk in confident, not confused. We're with you right until the visa is in your hands. The overall process from start to visa takes approximately 5 to 6 months.
-
8
Pre-Arrival & Settlement Support
We don't disappear after the visa is stamped. We help you understand your employment contract, what to expect during onboarding, how to register in Germany (Anmeldung), and how to set up health insurance and a local bank account.
Docs Required β Arranged by Level
The document requirements vary based on your qualification level and profession. Here's what's typically required across levels:
All Applicants (Basic Level)

- Biometric photographs and completed visa application form
- CV in German professional format (Europass or equivalent)
- Proof of accommodation in Germany for your first weeks
- Health insurance docs valid from day one

The Healthcare Pathway: One of the Strongest Routes Right Now
We want to spend a moment on this because it's one of the most structured and genuinely accessible pathways we work with.
Germany needs over 35,000 additional healthcare professionals right now, and the number grows every year. Several German states and hospital groups have formal recruitment partnerships with Indian institutions. Germany is actively looking for qualified healthcare workers from India.
Eligible Candidates:
- GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery) β male & female
- B.Sc Nursing β male & female
- M.Sc Nursing β male & female
- OTA (Operation Theatre Assistant)
- ATA (Anaesthesia Technician Assistant)
- Other eligible healthcare professionals with recognized qualifications
- Freshers welcome β experience not mandatory for all profiles
The process involves recognition of your qualification through the nursing chamber of the state you'll work in, a language requirement of B2, and usually an adaptation period working under supervision before you receive full registration. Family Reunion Visa becomes available after nursing registration is completed.
"Getting your Indian healthcare qualification recognized in Germany is not a wall. It's a process. And every process has a path."

What About Bringing Your Family?
Most work visa holders in Germany can apply to bring immediate family members β spouse and minor children β once they're established. The EU Blue Card offers faster family reunification rights than most other visa categories.
Spouses of EU Blue Card holders can work in Germany without restriction from the moment they arrive β no separate work permit needed. For healthcare professionals, the Family Reunion Visa becomes available after nursing registration is completed in Germany.
We advise clients on family reunification timelines and what to prepare from the start so there are no surprises later.
Why Work Visa Applications Get Delayed or Rejected
We believe in being straight with you. Here are the real reasons applications fail, and every single one is avoidable:
- Credential recognition not completed before applying for the visa
- Language certificates below the required level for the specific role
- Employment contract that doesn't meet German salary or sector requirements
- Incomplete or unauthenticated academic docs
- CV not formatted to German professional standards
- Missing certified German translations of key docs
- Applying to the wrong visa category for the specific job role
- Applicant age above 45 years
- Work experience below the required 5 years
From work visa to Permanent Residency: the path is more achievable than most people think.
EU Blue Card holders can apply for Permanent Residency in as little as 21 months. Your skills, your experience, your future: Europe is ready for you when you're ready for it.
